Vidding Notes
This is my last vid for a little while. No, honestly. I've eaten up all my free time with it lately. I'm talking bringing the laptop to the dinner table with me, or bringing dinner to the laptop. But I've also picked up another job, and I've promised that for at least two weeks any free time I have will be devoted to writing and friends. Vidding truly is addictive. I've never spent so much time in front of a computer in my life---and I'd be the first to admit I'm a state law away from marrying it.

So, if I'm back to video editing before those two weeks are up?

Shoot me. Please. The process is as agonizing as it is fun. A lot like writing, which I also slave away at. Why do I do this stuff?

This one has been in my head ever since I saw "Bloody Mary". Now it's out of my head, thank merlin, and I'm actually a little in love with it. I say this now. I'll hate it soon.

I was watching a whole bunch of vids - I just dragged all my divx ones onto a VLC playlist and let it go while I was working on something dull, and I kept getting distracted by these really intense gorgeous vids. Then after the third one came up, I realized they were all yours. Newport son breaks me every time.

Oh, wow. I'm very flattered. I do that sometimes too, just let vids run while I'm doing other things, and I have vids that grab me away from those things---it's awesome to have a vid I made do that to someone else.

What really killed me was compressing it. The eps I used as source were really high quality HD versions, and to see the quality drop, even the slightest, was like having a finger cut off or something. It's hard to let go. ::whimpers::

That was a wickedly awesome video. What do you use to make them? Adobe Premiere? Or are you just really good at movie maker?

I've made a couple of SN videos myself but so far, the muse hasn't struck for a real GOOD idea (I do have some but *shrug*). I can't wait to see more :)

So glad you liked it! I actually use neither. Adobe freaked me out, and never proved stable enough for me to work with on my computer at the time, and WMM got to be to constricting for me. I use PureMotion's Edit Studio 4 which seems to be a happy medium. It doesn't have the full array of effects that Adobe offers, but it has quite a few of them, and with a little creative tinkering, you can get some nifty stuff out of it, and do most of the stuff Adobe does. It's like Adobe's pretty "but in a plain way" cousin, but without the emotional baggage. I love it desperately.

I'd love to see your vids. Do you have them on-line yet?

lovely vid. i stopped watching the show after the first ep because i just have a thing about ghosts and it scared me too much. but this definitely made me sad about that. i loved the coloring and the atmosphere.

Hey, I don't blame you for getting freaked. Most of the episodes aren't terribly scary, but you know those bloody-eyed Sam clips I used? I'm still a little twisted up about that episodes. Going back through and picking out the right clips didn't help that. That episode FREAKED ME OUT.

But it is something good you're missing. Sometimes hokey, a little bit on the ripping off horror movies---but it feels fresh. And the characters. They are to love.

woah, jesus, this is one fantastic way to be introduced to the first images from a show. that... was so awesome. i get some affected by certain songs, and if the vidding is excellent and melds perfectly, then it can really hit me something strong. the song choice was fantastic (ths afternoon i'll be finding the group and downloadoing fit to bust, any song recommendations?) and the vidding was just beautiful. the constant return to the girl in flames was so affecting... you're just altogether amazing!! [/gush]

glad i popped in just to check on my flist. have been doing it every fortnight or so, just recent entries. i know there are other vids you've done that i've missed, and i'm off to find them today. if it wasn't for being absolutely besotted with I Spy at the moment i'd be putting all my energy into downloading Supernatural eps i think. Long haired bloke = cor lummy.

Aw, but now I'm almost regretting it. It fits. I heard it and thought 'SAM! BABY! WOOBIE! SAM!' but now that I'm getting into Invisible Man? INVISIBLE MAN? Ah, what a missed oppurtunity that's going to be. But no, no, it was the right song for Sam. It WAS. /whimpers/ I'll just have to find another one for Darien Fawkes, the I-Man.

Oh, wow. I loved this. Great choice of songs -- such an impact. I sincerely loved the loss of colors on the lyric switches -- to bleed it all out with just a tint--amazingly creepy and really echoes the whole idea of being a ghost in your own life and body. Also, nice Pov shifts for Dean to sanp in frame.

It's almost creepy isn't it? I had to mirror that bit (he was actually walking in the opposite direction), and slow it down to make it fit the music. He hulks so prettily.

This vid was simply amazing.

I loved the song choice (I really need to download that song now!), I'm actually in the process of outlining a vid to "Cells" by The Servant right now, so it's cool to see a vid done to one of their other songs!

I liked the use of the altered colors in some of the scenes. It gave the vid a unique look.

I really liked the sequence of clips around the 1:20 mark. My favorite part was probably around 2:35 with little Dean saving Sammy intercut with him watching over Sam in the present. Very cool.

I watched this vid twice in a row and I'll definitely be watching it again. This is easily the best Sam!angst vid I've seen :-)

And don't stop vidding! Or at least don't stop for too long!

But yeah, I know what it's like, vidding totally consumes my life sometimes too. It's just so much fun though :-)

Hey there -- I stumbled upon your vid over at the vidding community and I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed it. The quality was fantastic (though, was the aspect ratio off a bit? Their faces seemed a bit smushed inwards in a scene or two) and I adored the song you chose. I especially loved how you "timed" the scene cuts with the beat in the music and how you managed to catch the "down" moments in the song with the down moments in the characters lives.

I've been experimenting with extreme cutting (clipping edges of the source), so that's probably it. I'll probably go with less extreme in future vids. :)

Alright, I know I already left feeback, but I was rewatching your vid and had one of those rare but amazing moments where I suddenly understand the significance of every single lyric and every single clip choice and I think I'm a little bit in love with this vid right now!

I love how the entire thing is put together like kind of a pep talk Dean is giving Sam. It made sense for the song and it gave the vid much more depth.

I absolutely adored the reverse technique you used! It gave those scenes a really unique feel, like they weren't scenes we saw on the show or something. My favorite is the one where they're in the car and, because it's reversed, it now looks like Dean is putting his hand on Sam's shoulder (whee, subtext!).

There were a few subtle touches that I really liked. At about 1:42 there was a really short clip of a look Dean is giving Sam and it's just the absolute most perfect clip for the lyric "it's not what you think it to be". It's almost like it (and the clip of Sam in the mirror directly afterward) convey the entire "It's not your fault, Sam" conversation in less than 2 seconds. Brilliant.

I'm totally blown away by this vid. Sorry I had to leave two comments about this! My brain must not have been working when I watched it last night :-)

This vid was,.. amazing. It's one of the best, if not the best Supernatural vid which I've seen. Each clip related perfectly to the lyrics, and it was put together flawlessly. I really enjoyed the song aswell, I've had to download myself the song, it's just so fitting for Supernatural it's untrue. I really should learn to look for suitable songs to go with my vids...

I've had this vid on repeat about 10 times now, and I can't stop watching. It's just a vid I can't get bored with, and I usually get bored with some videos after watching them several times over, and more often than not it's my videos which I get bored with. I'm glad I discovered your Livejournal, you're an inspiration.
