Feedback is wonderful.

Downloading/Watching Information

a) You're going to need a divx codec to play this, and a lot of other vids. Go to divx.com to download. It's free, it's fast, it doesn't take long to set up. If your enjoy songvids, it's worth the extra effort.

b) Quality is directly related to size.

c) I'll re-upload the versions of the vid located on YouSendIt.com/Megaupload as often as I can, but mostly on request.

d) Not that you'd want to, but you can feel free to rec any of my vids at any time as long as you link to the page they're listed on.

e) VLC media player makes things pretty. It's the best player ever. I'm just making observations here.

If you've watched the vid, and this is by some chance your first experience with I-Man, check out the Invisible Man Starter Kit, I posted a little while back. Not that I'm pimping the fandom to you or anything. I wouldn't do that.

I've never seen Invisible Man, but since I LOVE your vids I'm going to check this out. Who knows, I may find I need to get into a new fandom ;-)

I can't watch it now because I'm at work but I'll definitely download it later!

You know you want another show. And to tempt you further... it's a beautiful show to vid for. Great camera work, and pretty special effects. I'm just saying.

Damn. It's 3am and I was gonna watch this vid, go to bed, and rewatch it tomorrow when I'm more coherent and then give feedback, but (rather stupidly) I underestimated your power of emotional storytelling even for fandoms I don't know, and I feel an acute need to write some stuff now, mostly along the lines of

...guhh. That's one impressive vid. Beautiful song and haunting clips. I love your use of beats in this one: it's obviously very strong in the music and you utilised it beautifully in the editing.

The image at 0:32 is extremely evocative. I usually don't like negative filters, but I felt that this was a prime example of how to do it right and really get a bang out of video effects. Love the mouse motif you've got going on, and the various filters you used on it. 0:49 is lovely.

0:36 I especially liked, the movement was gorgeous; same with the brief shot of him jumping forward at 0:47. The window sequence starting at 1:00 is beautiful - such poignancy coming through when married to the music that way. Definitely one of the high points for me.

I love how the clip at 1:45 sets the mood, it was very nifty. I really like the way you take your time with things like that, mixing up your standard face/body/reaction/action shots with symbols and snapshots of interesting significance.

"I go quietly" has some wonderful juxtaposition with clip choice, and really brought the vid to a climax.

I wish I could write some stuff on theme and characterisation, etc, it's inevitable I'm missin' out on whole chunks of texture by not knowing the fandom at all, which is a shame as usually your insights are so worth exploring. Le sigh. I'll check out the IM starter kit tomorrow.

Wonderful vid!

(I hope the FTP problems aren't coming from my end. If you have persistent trouble give me a yell.)

Feedback from you ALWAYS makes me happy. I was going to go take a shower, but I think I'll just sit here and re-read it for a little while. :)

I'm glad you were able to catch some of the meaning w/out knowing the original source. It's great source. I haven't watched your vids yet (see? pain for me. I need to set aside some time to catch up on vids I want to see), but knowing your a vidder, you'd definitely love this show. A lot of the effects you speak of liking in this video *came* from the source. I just took advantage of it, and played it off the beat. :)

And nah, I think it's me with the FTP---I have an outdated version of SmartFTP, and it keeps telling me to upgrade. ::kicks it::

Hah. Don't let me get in the way of cleanliness! ;)

Damn - That's the thing with not knowing the fandom - you can't be sure where canon ends and the vidder begins. Boy, I feel sheepish. But I am still very impressed by the way you managed to use these clips to maximise their potential. I'm definitely going to check it out as soon as I can.

Oh, don't feel sheepish. I thought the same thing when I first saw Sisabet's Weeping Willow. The show is just pretty, with nice camera work/angles/motion, not just the standard shots, and it makes it a lot of fun to vid. I mean, I probably won't be getting a bucketload of feedback for I-Man vids, but it's so interesting to vid that I just don't even care. I love vidding it that much.

/pimp

I'm done, I swear. *zips mouth*

Oooh, downloading off YSI now!

...and damn. A lot of the vids I've been uploading lately seem to have poor quality - they have red and green stripes running through them, and the colour's all wonky. And yes, I have the latest version of DivX - the problem shows up no matter what player I'm on. Have you ever heard of this problem? Could there be something weird about the way I'm DLing them? I have two different programs for that and it happens either way.

*sighs*

You know, that sounds like something I've gone through before with a different computer. If it's what I'm thinking, it's your PC's ability to play running up against the video acceleration settings for each of your players. The video acceleration options on windows media player are found under tools--->options---->performance

Changing those options to better suit your PC might help... or maybe not. But I'll throw that out there.

And you like I-Man? I can now sleep peacefully. :)

Oh, that was really cool! Very creepy and the clips were well-chosen.

I'm glad you liked it. :) And yay! Hot Donuts!

This was gorgeous. I'm enough out of touch that the song is entirely new, but it fit everything beautifully.

*sigh* I miss those two.

Oh, you're not out of touch, Sarah Slean isn't very mainstream at all. :)

Thanks for the feedback. And I know what you mean. I haven't seen Season Two yet, and I almost don't want to, because then there will be nothing left FOR me to see.

Wow, that was gorgeous and poignant. You did an incredible job of capturing the isolation and alienation of Darien's existence.

I hope you don't mind if I rec it in my LJ.

Thanks! *g*

And you can rec it anywhere you like. In fact, I'd be flattered.

Seriously fucking impressive. I loved the imagery of the lab rats. And gah - Darien! I'll try to remember to come back to this for more feedback after I've watched all the show (which I've been planning to do for aaages).

Thank you. :) I'll look forward to it.

And gah - Darien!

*whimpers*

He kills me, sometimes.

Darien! I am with you on the whimpering. I've only seen five episodes of the show, but man. Maybe it's the hair. Do you think it's the hair?

Still no detailed feedback for you, but I find myself watching the vid repeatedly. I think that's a good thing. I think my absolute favorite part is when you have the continued motion of the special Bobby/Darien handshake through three or four clips. (There is a term for that, but I've forgotten it. *eyes unfinished film class homework uneasily*) Anyway - I love that part. It brings me geeky joy.

Do you think it's the hair?

Oh, it's totally the hair. The spikey-goodness. And I kept wondering to myself, 'wait, you're so freakishly tall, why bother with the hair?' But I love the hair. I would not want it to go away.

Still no detailed feedback for you, but I find myself watching the vid repeatedly.

Dude, this IS detailed feedback. I love it. I'm so glad it's being suffered through repeatedly.

I think my absolute favorite part is when you have the continued motion of the special Bobby/Darien handshake through three or four clips.

That handshake is going to be a problem for me when I vid I-Man again, which I inevitably will, because it's such a huge part of the bobby/darien relationship to me. Or at least, it's such a huge symbol of them, of what the mean to each other. I'm going to find myself trying to insert it in every corner of every I-Man vid. Must restrain myself. :)

I'm going to find myself trying to insert it in every corner of every I-Man vid. Must restrain myself. :)

I, for one, wholly support Handshake of Love in every I-Man vid because... well... it's The Handshake!

I have nothing really coherent to say, I'm just going to fangirl you quietly from the corner. And maybe sob a little, because damn.

Hee. I hope that's a good thing. :)

Oh wow. That was just amazing! Really, really beautiful work. :)

Ever since I heard you got I-Man first season from your friend, I have been sitting/waiting/wishing that you'd make a vid for I heart the Bobby/Darien!! Wheeeeeeee

Hee! I hope you like it, evil lady. ;)

So I loved this so much, as I stated in my last comment, that I started randomly showing it to anyone in the viscinity. My roommate, who is fannish, though not into slash and largely off LJ, saw it and said "Interesting take. A man who is anything but invisible."

:)

Thank you. :) And I'm glad you liked it enough to inflict it on other people. That a vidder I respect found something to enjoy in one of my vids gives me that extra boost that'll lead me through my next vid. Er, if I can ever find the right song for SGA.

OMG, I've said this before, and I'll probably say it again later- but I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. First off- an I-Man vid! Second, it is So Damn Good.

The parallel of Darien and the lab rat was wonderful, because, after all, isn;t Darien the ultimate lab rat, trapped in a cage? And the introduction of BobbyHobbes to the lyrics, "I'm a photograph taken from where you are" was amazing. You get to see how alike they are, and, at the same time, how profoundly different. And, of course, how very much they;ve come to mean to each other.

And, OMG, the "So, shed your tears" verse laid over Bobby and Viv, with Darien always there, always behind Bobby, no matter what... it's amazing.

The whole vid is amazing. I mean, I've already watched it like five times, and I still feel the same emotional impact that I felt the first time.

Thank you SO MUCH for doing this vid and for sharing it with all of us. (Oh, and thanks to [info]katie_m for giving you the crack...)

OMG, I've said this before, and I'll probably say it again later- but I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

Intense: When you say it, I know you care.

;)

No, but really, aw. *cuddles*

And the introduction of BobbyHobbes to the lyrics, "I'm a photograph taken from where you are" was amazing.

Darien loves BobbyHobbes so much, it kills me. I mean, I don't even think I'm looking for subtext here, beyond what the actor who plays Darien says about their relationship being the true love story, because he is. all. over. Bobby. And he keeps trying to basically seduce his trust away from the Agency, and... It's a beautiful thing. I have to rewatch season one now, actually. All of it. Immediately.

One day Season Two will be mine. Oh, yes, it will be mine.

Hee! I got distracted. Thanks for the feedback is what I mean to say.

Bobby!Hobbes!

So. I know you're all, 'No worries! You're qualified! Feedback good!' but I'm sort of incoherent and I've never seen the show. (I saw your notice at [info]vidding and went, well, crap, it's her, so I'm going to have to watch it) and I have and dear god. So, yes. Wow.

The - honestly, I have no idea what the show's like. I know there is a guy, and he is invisible sometimes, and also there is a lot of slash, and explosions. I'm not positive about the explosions.

The rat was - I need words other than 'good'. It was a very, very cool recurring motif and it drove home that this is, you know, experimental and the rat kind of implodes and is all bloody and the skeleton dropping as he falls back on to the bed is just incredibly neat, and the eyes and this guy who is, who seems out of control sometimes but the music and the neatness and I need verbs, I think.

(*reads through various bits of the I-Man Starter kit, except hides from later spoilers in Ship Manifesto and totally has to be doing an essay right now but has more context for vid, yay vid*)

I am.. just endless enamored with your vidding technique, and I don't leave you enough feedback, and I apologize. But there's something sort of uncommon there, with your techniques and special effects.. usually I'm not terribly fond of cutting rigorously on the beat, but this worked, it wasn't just.. thump, cut, thump, cut. I mean, it wasn't that at all, especially, there was a lot.. cutting off, and to smaller beats, and internal movement, and the - uh. (I apparently lack the vocabulary for this.) Starting over.

I tend to watch vids you've created, even if I don't know the source, because you show ideas incredibly clearly. You seem to do a lot of - a lot of pulling from similar scenes, similar contexts, to drive home what's going on, the theme, like in Newport's Son with the beginnings and endings and doors, with all of that circling around, and even though I wasn't hugely familiar with the source I could recognize just what was happening and what you were showing and was very affected by that.. your taste in music, for vidding, is also incredible, I think it allows you to.. do more, in that sense - I think Laura Shapiro had an essay-type piece on music choices in vidding, and she said using uncommon music, music with strange internal pieces, that didn't follow the normal formula, allowed for a lot of interesting, ah, movement? And this is, this is certainly that.. showing the quicksilver and the changes, the time in the white padded cell, with the instruments and beats behind it, utilizing the higher vocals to amazing effect, and strange blips in the music for higher emotions, the bit before 'from where you are' with a jolt of piano, I think, and Hobbes (uh, the one that isn't Darien?) on the pavement, Fawkes over him (about 1:10).. and from about 0:28 where the heavy beats have fades to black, this sort of falling-away-from-him desperation, losing control of things, then holding on his face, and then again later. Just, the way you use the music, it's really amazing.

(..oh my god, this is too long to post as a comment. Thus two comments because I of course will not take this as a hint to edit heavily.)

(Continued here gah.)

Stressing again, the higher ethereal vocals especially when he's invisible.. god, I adore the use of the rat. Rats? The motifs, the.. man. I'm, well, I have to be doing other things so much right now but I'm trying to get out what I have to say, here, and send it before my head collapses and I hide from the comment box. (Wow, it is pretty in VLC. I usually only use VLC as an emergency backup player that will make sense of any amount of coding weirdness, but still. *dutiful following-directions type today*) Oh! And the hand thing! The.. hand.. uh. Fancy handshake thing, cut through what must be a couple of times they've done it, and again with me really liking that technique a whole lot. (1:21)

My only complaints are the end (which is an end! why, a really great vid should last for hours and hours and entertain me for an entire week without end!) and also that, should I manage to track down Invisible Man and start watching it, I can't imagine it being as endlessly cool and spectacular as you show it here. Also now I really have to, like, shut up, and finish up, and go on with things, and not keep ranting in your direction. I'm going to just wince and pretend my grammar here is not something that will haunt me for the rest of my waking days.

So. Yes. Thank you for sharing this, and, yes. It is cool. And. Yes. Oh, hey, also the little graphic you have for it is cool.

Oh, wow, you're feedback has just blown me away. No, seriously, I'm sitting her with this manic grin on my face, trying to string words together to sufficently express my appreciation and it's. not. possible. When I'm less gobsmacked, I promise I'll be back to talk about some of your comments, because yes, you're totally qualified! And you noticed a lot of things (off-beat love! whee!) --- it's weird, I was just talking in the vidding comm about how I'd used off-beat in this video, and it was a type of cutting I enjoyed as much as on the beat-cutting, as long as it feels right, and... yes, I'm rambling, but my joy can hardly be contained.

THANK YOU.

this is *awesome*, I love what you've done with beat and movement and the colors, I love what you've done with the mouse symbolism and with the story, this vid made both me and [info]lierdumoa release a huge breath after watching it and going, "THAT WAS SO COOL."

WOW. No, seriously. WOW. I'm so glad you liked it. After watching Welcome Home, I'm like, just. Yes. WOW.

What a *great* vid. I had to watch twice to comment!

I've seen most of the show, so I think I'm familiar enough with it to get the vid. But even if I weren't, I'd so get a lot out of the vid because I think you have this... way of *inviting* us to construct the pieces of your story. It's hard for me to explain (I can come back if I'm not being clear!) but having that skill is just so cool.

Poor, poor Darien. Some of my favorite parts include the shake of the rat cage in the beginning, the black-black cuts during Kevin's death, the sleep clip and the following parallel, and the way you "replaced" Darien with Bobby and vice versa (around 1:15 and 2:18).

Here's hoping you'll be waiting, but I
Gotta fly, gotta say good bye

Gah. Seriously.

The rat parallels are very impressive. My favorite's probably the one with Darien clutching his own *physical* bars. The clarity of the metaphorical cage up to this point makes this shot so powerful. Also - the skeleton of the rat and Darien falling down on the bed was breathtaking.

I go quietly.

Just--WAH!

*Thank* you.

Some of my favorite parts include the shake of the rat cage in the beginning,

What's funny about that is that it totally wasn't going to be there like that. It was supposed to be that clip, and then another clip, all with the rat symbolism, but I cut the clip too long, and then I previewed it, and. Well. Screw the second clip, because it was just meant to be.

Just--WAH!

Just-WHEE! I'm very happy that you liked the vid.

OK, sorry it took me SO damned long to finally give you feedback on this vid!

Now I've never seen I-man so I have no idea of the context of a lot of these clips, though most of the vid was clear enough that I could figure out generally what was going on.

Just from a technical perspective this was a VERY impressivly edited vid! It seemed almost like, instead of simply editing together a vid, you were choreographing a dance, everything had such a perfect flow from one scene to the next.

Some bits I particularly enjoyed:

- Every part that was right on the beat, it was like the clips were pulsing to the music, very cool.

- The flashes at 1:04.

- The two sections that had the same background but the character in different places in the room (1:08 and 1:55)

- 1:21, the hand slaps and fist bump to the beat.

- 1:27, the scene changes with the two men in the same position, very cool!

- 1:45, walking thru the lasers to the piano melody, it was the perfect clip for that music.

- 1:47 - 1:52, him laying down (looked like a reversed clip, if I'm not mistaken) to the rat bones falling. Awesome imagery.

- 2:17, clip of one character strangling the other, then the reverse. Again, very cool.

- "I go quietly" with a clip of him screaming. Nice!

Really excellent vid. Definitely one of the best I've seen in any fandom.

You rock like a rocking thing ;-)

You've definitely gotten me interested in watching I-man! I noticed you uploaded an episode a few days ago, I was going to check it out, but I'm one of those anal-retentive people who needs to watch a show from the beginning. So I think I'm going to download the first season if I can.

Your feedback just brings me joy. Seriously. Very happy here, just re-reading it after having read it a shameful number of times, like a new present.

- 1:45, walking thru the lasers to the piano melody, it was the perfect clip for that music.

When I first realized that was the right song for an I-Man vid, that was the first clip that popped into my head. Well, the whole scene I guess, but the clip is what ended up inside, because it was just so... I love the imagery in I-Man.

- 1:47 - 1:52, him laying down (looked like a reversed clip, if I'm not mistaken) to the rat bones falling. Awesome imagery.

Yep, reversed! You have a great vidder's eye.

Thank you so much for the feedback. Especially considering it's not even a fandom you're into. *cuddles you*

I would be one of those people who don't feel like they're qualified, but it doesn't matter whether I'm qualified or not because it would take a blind man to not see how amazing this vid is. [info]z_rayne showed it to me and I had to watch it twice. I'm downloading it now that I'm at home so I can watch it several more times at least. The timing of the clips with the music was wonderful all the way through, and the tone of each matched the other. Also, by watching this vid I have been convinced I need in on this fandom, or at least I need to watch the show, so pimp away! Also-also thank you so much for using that song, because it's beautiful, and I need to hear more of her stuff.

It's downloaded now, and I'm watching it again. I am still astounded and stunned by your expertise. There are so many parts of this vid that just work. Thank you so much for sharing this.

But, see? This feedback just makes me feel good. You'd have been denying me that spark of pure good feeling if you'd decided you weren't qualified enough to reply. It's wonderful feedback, truly, and thank you for it.

And Sarah Slean is... Man, I just want to vid to every one of her songs. If you like her, he'd probably also enjoy Aimee Mann or Cat Power.

Re upload IM Vid, please

This was on my list to dl since December but unfortunately time & circumstances conspired such that when I tried, the smaller link was expired. Could you please re-upload it again? I'd love to get the larger version but as I'm on dial-up, the small file is more practical, sadly. Thanks in advance.

Eeek, sorry for the late reply! I'll get to uploading the smaller version of Thief this weekend at some point and comment back when it's up. Thank you for waiting.

That was a wonderful video. I watched it more than once before I actually wrote anything. The song was great and the editing was fantastic too.

I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for commenting. :)

I just wanted to say that I greatly enjoyed your vid, it was very dramatic and highly charged. You did a really beautiful job with it.

still know that his post is really old, i just have to say it - because i know a vidder likes to hear it:) : absolutely awesome, great, beautiful & really cool vid!

never heard of sarah slean before, but i really like the song, i think i have to listen to some more songs by her... & the detailed feedback i leave to those who already commented before me, they've said everything i would have said (& much better too).
