Video Notes

Alternate summary considered: Fawkes loves Hobbes forever and ever omg, and he reaches out, and like, Hobbes just ain't into that.

I tried to focus alot on their interaction with each other. A lot of what attracts me to a pairing is how they move around one another, what their body language says, and with Fawkes/Hobbes, they're constantly grabbing at each other or moving into each other's space. Fawkes is the most openly touchy 'hero' I've ever seen in action, but he's not like that with everyone. Hobbes gets most of that side of him.

I don't know if any of you have ever seen the Turin Brakes music video to this song, but it is a beautiful tribute to the movie My Own Private Idaho, a movie about a character with narcolepsy. He spends a lot of the movie passed out, actually. It's possibly my favorite movie ever in the history of any movie, so when I saw Turin Brake's tribute to it, my mind was blown. Then I heard this song again a year later and I immediately thought... Seth/Ryan, The OC baby. And then I watched an episode of The Invisible Man and I thought: what the hell were you thinking? I-Man! Fawkes/Hobbes! Perfection! So, uh, this is kind of my tribute to the tribute.

I should be given points or have points taken away for making an Invisible Man vid where the Darien never goes invisible (...if you don't count the title sequence...) WHAT IS THAT?

Of note, I had some nightmares while making this video. Not that the source is particularly frightening, but it IS stranger than my everyday life and seeing so much of it constantly messed with my dreams something fierce. I don't remember what the nightmares were about any longer, but they were somehow related to I-Man.

Um, what else? Oh, if you have any questions about why I chose a certain clip, why I did that there in that second, why I used those colors, feel free to ask. I love vid talk.

Now I'm not vidding ever again. Ever, ever, ever. Because it obsesses me and THEN it wipes me out. Okay, maybe just ONE more...

But there were lots of needles! So it balances out.

I had to refrain from squeebling with joy while I was watching this because my roommate is studying, and her exams could take mine out to a dark alley and beat them up, so I need to be quiet. BUT I AM VERY HAPPY ON THE INSIDE. I finally uploaded my really crappy fandom icon just so I could use it to comment on this post. Really!

And now I'm going to go watch it again.

I'm really glad you liked it, especially since the source you provided pretty much rounded out the video idea for me. :)

I gotta first say I'm slightly disappointed. Not about the vid (the vid was awesome), but it's the song. I heard you talking about 'Underdog' and I was expecting 'Underdog' by Big Wreck (which would have been uber cool).

Vid was awesome. There needs to be more I-Man vids out there. And since I'm slowly getting the rest of season 2, I hope to make vids because that show is awesome :D

Now I'm not vidding ever again.

*gasp!*

Don't make me come over there and slap you!

Okay, maybe just ONE more...

Once I think I'm out, they pull me back in :P

Hee! I'm glad you likeD it. And hey YOU could vid that song, you know. In fact, you must. To I-Man. Or the O.C. OR ANYTHING.

The song is actually by Mudmen (I realized that a little while ago lol).

I could...One day... *is far behind on vidding*

Yay! Yay! I'm so glad you got to the Turin Brakes one first! Am downloading and waiting impatiently. And aww, thank you. *hugs*

*waits impatiently*

Oh man, you so didn't have anything to worry about in regards to having to pull a Kid A after Puppet. This was awesome. It's so brilliant. I can't believe someone actually vidded this song, and it's you, and it's so perfect! Now my knowledge of I-Man stops at that one episode you uploaded and a couple of vids here and there, so I'm missing all the main symbols and metaphors and all that, which makes me sad, but technically it's brilliant as usual.

Awesome title sequence. That is so cool. And I liked your style of cutting in this, the cutting into a frame, it really stresses the particulars of what you want the viewer to be looking at.
"Two black lines" is a fabulous lyric match. Especially ~0:25 with their shadows on the floor, and just that entire sequence with them always walking toward us.
0:28 - love the blood thing happening on the beat there.
0:47 - what's happening there? Curse my lack of source knowledge. But it looked very cool and poignant anyway. (It's so annoying that I know it means something in context but I'm like the only person who doesn't know what it is!)
0:56 - the movement of the hands, followed by the fish going in with that same movement. Awesome.
1:34 onwards - oh, what an awesome gun shot. And then all the sepia tones flashing up on the beat after that. So gorgeous. (And also the way it was echoed around the 2:40 mark.) The shot of the screen, and then it going static, looks like your own invention? Again, can't be sure without knowing the source, but it looks very cool.
Key motif! Yay! I love that you always have leitmotifs through your vids, it's such a big thing for me and you do it so well. I liked that shot of the tumbleweed earlier as well. And also the focus here on Darien's hands always holding onto Bobby. Slashy goodness, hello. Especially that shot at 1:52. How gorgeous is that? *melts*
2:03 - oh my god, I love that little half-turn there, the way you lingered on that shot.
Guitar sequence!!! I was so looking forward to how you'd do that. Oooh, loved that filter, the way you built on it through how that hallway clip looked in the source. But whhyyy? Why tear out my heart with that sad lonely ending?!? You evil wench, you.

YAY!!!! Will have to rec this later. I don't think there's been a vid of yours yet that I haven't felt the compulsive need to rec. You are by far my favourite vidder of all time. *schnoogles*

I'm really glad you don't think this is like ten steps back from that puppet video I have grown to hate, because this one is... this is my BABY. I think it might actually need a little more work in some areas (there are one or two things that I would like to honestly change) but it's my DARIEN video, and once you see the series, you will understand just how precious he is. HE WEARS SHORTS, DUDE. AND STUPID HATES. AND HE'S A SUPERHERO KINDA. AND HE LOVES BOBBY HOBBES SO MUCH IT BRINGS ME TO TEARS.

I totally almost cut the guitar sequence out. And then I thought of you. And then I thought of that age-old meta about the non-lyric sequence of any lyric-music being a SAFE zone, a free zone to express ideas that would otherwise go unseen. But it was a scary sequence, man. I could have used some hand holding.

AND I nearly had a happy ending. But... but... that song is so intertwined with My Own Private Idaho in my head and Darien is just so tragic sometimes... I had to end with him shaking off the madness without Bobby's help. Gad. Bobby Hobbes. Darien Fawkes. *whimpers*

I cannot WAIT for you to see this show.

I just can't even say anything to this, because it really really makes me happy to hear that.

You always pick such brilliant music for your vids- you have a stash of gold on your computer.

I loved the video, which is unsurprising as I generally love your vids. The sepia overlays (yeah, I don't know technical words) were a lovely touch. It's also always fun to see Darien skipping :D

Fabulous as usual.

Wonderful compliment! Thank you! I love all kinds of music, so I like to mix it up with vidding. I'm glad you liked the video. :)

Wow, I really liked this. Just a beautiful use of clips and I really liked the end (though, *SNIFF*).

I don't suppose you know of anywhere online that I could see that Idaho music video? I love that movie too, and it does go perfectly with this song.

I'm glad you liked it. And yeah, I totally wanted to make the video end happily, but it had complete control of me by then.

And I've been looking, because there used to be a copy of the video on a My Own Private Idaho fansite, one where there were other songvids up, but...? Dammit, I want to see it again, too.

OMG! You are my hero. This ROCKED. I loved the feeling of it, all movement and momentum. And, my god, it's been a while since I watched much I-Man, but, MY GOD! They do touch each other a lot, don't they?

THANK YOU!! ::goes to watch again::

Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it. This show is taking over my brain. Or one of my brains. Because then there's Supernatural and The O.C. and... but now, THIS SHOW OWNS A LARGE PART OF THAT SQUISHY THING INSIDE MY SKULL.

And they really touch each other ALL the time. My favorite is when they're sit practically on top of each other. in every episode.

I swear I was going to say something about the touching before I read your notes. I enjoy all the touching in a tight little package. Also though, I love that it doesn't really kick in till about halfway, the gunshot to snowy TV screen part, which is my favorite transition of the vid. They really do touch a lot, and it's not just casual, there's some actual caresses in there. I love those boys.

My gosh, I love them too. SO MUCH. I don't even feel like I've scratched the surface of the vids I want to do about them. Thank you for watching! :D

This made me clap with glee *squee* It was fantastic. The song was awesome too. I'm a bumbling mess after seeing this. It was quite awesome!

I'm really glad you liked it. :)

... I can't even deal. I. DARIEN!! The key from "Ralph" is so perfect here, so poignant, and all the touching and Bobby, you idiot! *sniffles*

This is a *wonderful* vid. What a great song for both of them, and what lovely use of the constant physical contact footage, as well as the often melancholy tone of Darien's plight. I am extremely impressed and joyful!! We need more I-Man vids.

OMFG, I think I'm in IMan heaven. Dude, I'm getting every IMan video I can get my grubby little hands on and burning it to disc.
As well as pimping it to any and all IManiacs still out there.
Thank you so much for making these! The I'm A Thief one was brilliant, and I'm DL'ing UD right now (damn this insipidly slow dialup!), which I'm sure is awesome as well.
Hell, I've been obsessed with making a vid to Metallica's "Until It Sleeps". Now I"m friggin' scared to make it, knowing that it's just gonna completely suck my brain outta my nostrils with a frickin' bendy straw. Argh...
*snicker*
Again, thank for this, hon. Hope you don't mind me pimping you to some friends?

Really great work! Thanks for sharing!

okay, i know this post is over a year old now, but i just found your vids & have also recently discovered the wonderful i-man series,... so i just have to leave a feedback.

i love the vid. it's awesome & i lso like the song very much, even if i don't see fawkes & hobbes as a slash pairing (yet), for me it's just an awesome friendship vid :)

i esp. love the sequences:
* ~1:35-38, where you used very short, sepia coloured clips on ever beat to overlay the other clip, i really adore those seconds
* then again the similar at ~2:39-42, so beautiful
* the clip at 3:09 & then again at 3:11 is just sweet :) hobbes carrying his tall partner
* oh yes, and i also love the intro, i've watched a few of your other vids & saw that you almost always make a little intro if it's with a standing picture or with a moving - & i think it's awesome (again), because it really defines the vid as your own, i've rarely seen something like that, very cool!

I'm finally letting myself get back into I-Man fandom (it would have depressed me before - I only recently acquired broadband, but now there are DVD's, yay!) and I'm loving your vids. I need to watch them several more times to even approach coherent commentary; for now it's just *happyhappyhappy* whee!
