Vidding Notes:

This one is a lot darker than my more recent work. In a way, that's a relief. I don't feel so much like I can only vid cotton candy --- not to say vidding cotton candy isn't fun, because hell, cotton candy is AWESOME. Right?

The idea with this one was to keep it almost painfully real, which is why I kept the more supernatural aspects of the show to a strict minimum and played up the two-guys-on-the-road vibe the show brings us, and that kind of morphed itself into the Bonnie&Clyde do-anything-for-you vibe of theirs that I've been wanting to vid forever. Obviously, the video is from Sam's POV, but the bidder wanted a twisty POV, so I tried to make it about Dean as much as possible without removing Sam from the speaking role, and I also tried to honor that by making Sam's POV change throughout, twist into something completely different. The video is largely about how Dean is at times truly dying to be near Sam, and how at first Sam is reluctant to accept the life Dean wants for them (be that an incestuous relationship between them or the canonical offer from Dean in season one's Shadows that was followed by Sam's rejection of it), but with the climax of s2, he is becoming more and more alined with Dean's desires. Except it's kind of fucking him up. And does Dean REALLY want Sam to be as fucked up as he is? Catch 22.

The color work was limited to the visible (black&whites, and then the bright hues in the 'Sam's beautiful smile' section) and otherwise, I left the source colors alone to avoid degrading it too much. There is the usual time-toggling, slowing and speeding up of clips, cropping, blah blah blah. I am fond of the title sequence. I think it starts the video off on the right foot. Speaking of titles, I don't know what it is with me, but I can't keep it simple. I always have to step away from the song title, unless I feel it really fits the completed video.

The hardest part in vidding this was not the actual vidding process for once, because I had a very clear, focused path in mind for that. It was the clipping. Sam's big unhappy face made me cry actual tears of frustration. DAMN YOU SHOW. Also. I FUCKING HATE THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS TAG OF LATE S3 WITH A PASSION. I edited it out as much as I could, but at times the blocking I really wanted would be messed up if I had, so I was forced to leave it in. The dvds can't come out soon enough.

I've just recently discovered a new love for songvids - like, twoweeksago!recently - and so I was able to really, completely get into that vid of yours and oh it was great!

I'm really not used to leaving feedbacks for songvids, so I'm not even really sure what I'm supposed to say here but okay let's just that I love the story you told us and love the editing, the scenes you picked. The pace, too, was really good and made the whole thing even more intense.

So, anyway, thanks for sharing, I loved it!

See, I don't watch as many SPN videos as I used, mostly because there are SO VERY MANY and I wouldn't know where to start, so it's VERY good to hear that I made unusual choices without even meaning to because I try to weigh the always-used-holy-grail type clips with the more rare type in my videos. Wow this was an amazing vid, I was seriously blown away. I love love love your title for the vid, and I seriously love the "brightness of Sam's smile" part as you put, because it was such a great contrast from the darkness of the rest of the vid.

Dude, the title is almost my favorite part of the video. I'm weird, I know. I'm glad you liked the coloring of that section. At first, it was a lot more intense, even more so than it is now, but I thought it best to tone it down a bit with some black&white splotches to dampen the vividness so it could connect to the black and white sequence it was a part of... without taking away from the emotional contrast. Good to hear it's liked. :)

oh god, that was very very good. Very intensely sexy, without any overt sexual imagery. One scene where Dean is perhaps readying this KNIFE made me catch my breath. Everything that's erotic about the Winchester boys. Beautiful work!

See, yes, that's what I wanted. I made my sister watch it, and she was like, 'but they're not doing anything gay!' and I went off about the importance of subtext and how emotions are sexy, and she just shook her head and told me to insert porn. But I put my foot down. Because while plenty of videos have done that and made it work, it was so not right for this one. Er, sorry for the ramble.

Can't express how much joy I feel at you vidding SPN again... No, really, if I tried, there might be interpretative dance involved.

I adored it. The dark tone and everything, so gorgeous.

0:47 Guh! at how fitting that is with the music and the vid itself.
1:19-20 I think that's probably one of the best uses of that scene I've seen.
2:04-0:20 GUH! Gorgeous! I'm not very good with words tonight, but that portion worked SO well for me. Not just Sam's physical death, but sort of Dean's realization that Sam as he was, because of his own insistance to push him into that life and the world itself, is pretty much dead. And going further into the darker side than ever Dean has ever left himself go, and Dean's unable to stop that from happening.

I loved how you used the entangled scene from Jus in Bello, which was comedic in the source, but works so well to dramatic effect in your vid.

And this is *so* much more I could say.

SPN is the fandom I keep coming back to for vidding. So, even if I don't always mention it in my journal or don't say I'm actively interested in it, I totally am. Every Thursday night, my ass starts getting butterflies about the show. MY ASS. I just tend to get distracted by shiny objects easily.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for commenting on the usage of Dean thrashing the Impala. I don't watch as many SPN videos as I used to, mostly because there are so damn many, but I know for a fact that scene is way overused at this point, and I had to bite my lip a little about using it. In the end, I decided I would cut it up a lot and hope for the best.

You always use such striking imagery. The religious undertones of that shot of Sam carrying the little girl out of the pool never really occured to me until this vid.

I have to say. I love the steady ominous beat of the song and how u matched the dark visuals to it. And it kinda gimme shivers cos ya know, the boys are each others' personal saviours and it's iilustrated quite well. The scarry bit is when u throw up whether it is a health transition for the 2 of them by narrowing their whole lives to each other. *Does that make sense to ya*

Also I have a question. What is the diff between the 102 mb version and the 51.2 mb ver? Is there anything that the viewers will lose out on if we download the 51.2 mb instead of the 102 mb?

As far as the downloads go, I wouldn't worry too much if you skip out on the 102mb version. It's basically as clean and pretty as the source I made it from, but 51.2mb one is still pretty good, because recently I've developed a phobia of compressing clips to the point where they begin to degrade and can't bring myself to do it. .
