Notes: First video made with Sony Vegas 9. I didn't take advantage of the effects, but I sure did take advantage of the playback window. This video was more technically smooth than any video I've made. I'm still working on figuring out compression with Vegas, but, ah, well, that's an issue I might always have. If you have any tips to avoid ugly interlacing, do let me know.

The video itself is a more serious take on the Tony/Mcgee partnership and tension. It takes a lot from the new dynamic that I find so intriguing. This is another one of those songs that I've wanted to vid forever but could never figure out what for. It was finally time, I guess.

Vidding NCIS is hard. I'd forgotten. I need to be working on my website for class, but I can't seem to back away from Tony's dreamland. I keep debating whether effects would help or hinder. I might need a second set of eyes on the plain vid, at least what I have of it so far. Any takers?

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful snowflake cookies! It makes my profile look seriously sexy, in a winter-cookie kind of way, if youknowwhatimeannudgenudge. Although, I am starting to think you all brought this blizzard down on my head, but hey, work was cancelled today, which means I can work on my website development homework... as long as the power doesn't go out... so I'm all good!

I, uh, might sneak in some video editing. I got my new computer! With a terabyte of hard drive space. I got up on Black Friday to get it for six hundred, and oh man, I never realized how painful my vidding experience was until I moved everything off of my dinky 70gig laptop, onto this computer, and hadn't even filled a tenth of the space.

Plus, I can run Sony Vegas on this one. I still have my EditStudio on here, just in case, but now that I can actually run Sony Vegas, I'm determined to learn it. Tutorials here we come! It already seems fairly simple. And one great thing about it is the preview monitor on it doesn't skip, so I can actually see what my video will most likely look like instead of having to render a whole video to see if I like it.

Seriously, I was a trooper to vid the way I did. I had no idea. I imagine classic vidders feel the same way, if not more smug. ;)

Without rhyme or reason, I present a set of recs of videos that fit no theme except for having been watched by me recently.

Creepin' Up On You by WafflesnBrains
Fandom: Heroes
Pairing: Mohinder/Sylar - Slashy

I'm recommending this video because it appeals to my guilty pleasure, which is creepy!love. It's a Sylar stalks Mohinder video, with more recent footage than is in a lot of better Mohinder/Sylar vids, to a song that I have a strange fascination with. It's not quite crack, so I won't describe it as such, but it does have element of like, a 1980's horror love story.

It's definitely a video that re-contextualizes the source (my favorite kind!), so leave most of what you know about the series at the door and you will have a blast, promise.

And the ending is my absolute favorite part. Once you see it, you'll know why.

Shake It by analeian

Pairing: None, really.

The vidder says this was vidded to capture the emotion, "joy!" and I totally agree. I fall in and out of love with the Big Bang Theory, but this video captures everything I love about the show. Its high intensity, and seems like a longer video than it actually is. Some of the effects are a little distracting, but you know what, WHATEVER, everyone's mileage varies and all that. It's a good happy-making video.

Morgan/Reid? Oh fuck yes, please. My newest attention stealer. So, the video does have some flaws admittedly, which are very very fixable and it's mostly about what might be distracting to you, me, someone (there is an overlay throughout that I don't understand the choice for, and the artists name is plasterd across the bottom of the video...something I've done myself by the way), but I don't think it takes away from the enjoyment of the video.

It has a really solid story idea that it follows, in which Derek Morgan has not quite realized how much power he has over Spencer Reid, but is beginning to understand. There is this undertone of threat to the video that pervades throughout. It's a really emotional video, and Reid's delicacy really comes through int his video. He's almost like a baby bird here, somehow, such potential contained in this easily damaged package. This video is Derek's struggle with that. I also think it has a really interesting style the video, a definite fingerprint of youtube, that might making it refreshing to some who are used to watching vids from one school of style.

When You Fly Too Close To The Ground by 404ing

A character study on Castiel. Gorgeous style and flow. With the first clip it caught my complete focus. There is this very brief, wrenching overlay at 00:38 that took my breath away with how perfect it was. This is not just a video about Castiel, it is a video that *feels* like Castiel. It has his conflicted heart in every clip. It examines his relationship with Dean, Anna, and Uriel. There are some beautiful transitions which morph Castiel into Dean, a beautiful metaphor for the videos theme of an Angel getting too close to humans. There is nothing I don't love about this video.

Oh and the coloring. I have a weakness for pretty visual effects. Just... let me be able to do that, please.

I've once again put away everything serious to vid complete crack. In my defense, I made awesome headway on the two serious vids (Nicky, the artsy one I talked to you about is coming along swimmingly).

But. BUT. I've spent a week on this crack-ass vid that a part of me wants to keep all to myself because I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH. I'm enamored of my own vid, even though it's terrible. It's a great feeling. I just know about three people are going to watch it, and everyone else is going to roll their eyes, and I do not even care, because I adore it.

I don't know when I'll get to share it. It's not even done yet, but I'm already worried about this terrible internet connection. I WANT TO SHOW YOU MY VID DAMMIT.

Oh, please, no. It makes me want to take the videos away and HIDE them. I'm not a crazy fan, Pete, I swear! I know the line between reality and fantasy, and I know I push the envelope with these videos, but at the end of the day, do I believe in the eternal love of Pete&Patrick? Er, no. Maybe their guy love. But other than that, no.

Wow. I am so weirded out right now. I guess this is the chance you take with RPS vidding. I should have expected this.

Civil Twilight - Human

I absolutely have to vid this song. It will be my epic John Sheppard (Stargate Atlantis) video. I already see the video in my head. Heavy Mckay/Sheppard undertones, but ultimately a character video. I see this one beautiful effect that I will attempt. Seriously, it's already vidded, waiting for me to produce it. And yet, I have no time to do it right now. Dammit. I've lost all the love I have for my current projects. Blah.

Yeah, all projects are on the burner, I am exhausted. I'm sad about that, despite the hard earned money rolling in (tips! yay tips!) because I really wanted to work on the Gossip Girl video. And there may or may not be this Madonna/Britney video that will seriously take a year to make with all the frame-by-frame editing involved, and maybe an Entourage video? Maybe. I've thought about these videos with my ipod turned up, and my eyes glazed over on the way to and from work this past, um, when was my last day off? Hmm. For the past while now, and I'd love to be able to sit down and actually work on them, but the most I can bring myself to do is clip. I need that sort of mind-numbing thought-not-required stuff right now after work.

I'm just glad I have a job, and that I am able to acquire so many hours. With the situation the US economy is in, I'm very lucky.

My hair is now black, blond, and red. It's awesome, and I love it, but wow, it is messy.

I'm posting this for personal reference, but who knows, it might come in handy for a few of you as well.

... I did mention it was messy. My bathroom will never be the same. If I don't hate it in a week, and I can manage a photo of myself where I don't look like a fool, I'll show you guys. I'm trying to allow myself to be photographed more these days, because there is seriously a six year gap in photographs of me. My mom moans at me around the holidays about stuff like that.

This is how it goes:

"I need more photos for the walls."

"Who even WANTS to see the drunken prom date on the wall?"

"When you were little, you loved having your photo taken. All I have are photos of you as a kid."

"When I was little, I didn't care that I looked like a drunken seven year old prom date."

I am vidding. Again. Or, maybe the better word is still? I don't know at this point. I keep jumping into these projects with due dates. Why do I do this to myself? I'm wishing I hadn't signed up for my latest one, because the due date is fast approaching, and I haven't even *started* and wow, what a panic attack that is. Luckily the guideline calls for what I would call a vidlet, and all my clipping is already done for the fandom, so if I can just do about ten seconds a day, I should be fine. That's harder than it sounds for me. Some days I vid in negative seconds, I shit you not. What a state of mind those days turn out to hold.

After that? I'm definitely going to finish my Gossip Girl video. It's staring at me accusingly right now.

In conclusion, ( PATRICK STUMPH ) is a total hotass. When I haven't been busy killing my hair, I've been busy ogling. HIS PERFECT FACE. If he weren't so awesome, I would feel utterly shallow. I don't know what else to say. There can be only gawking.

Yeah, I really need to learn to do in-depth searches when I get an idea. I still really want to do the eighties teen movie theme, but unless I find the right song, I'm gonna axe it.

Feedback puts a smile on my face.

How about I do something completely unusual, and whine about vidding? /sarcasm

I'm working on the final treatments for another video. I'm as shocked as you are. This one hasn't even taken me a month. Three weeks, I think, if you don't count clipping.

And now my gut is churning. It's an RPS video, and the subject matter was a bit difficult to pull off considering the source, and that's half my problem right there. It's a concept vid, AU, and I'm not positive it will shine for anyone but me. And hey, I'm okay with that. I make videos that I want to see. That doesn't mean I don't hope others will like it as well and then send me a million comments, but that's the greedy-human part of me that is honestly NEVER satisfied. At this point I mostly ignore that side of me and focus on the side that is satisfied by a completed project, because otherwise, I'd never make half the videos I do.

I tried some new techniques with this one, and to be honest, the entire video has a weird feel. A little art house-y. Nothing wrong with that, I guess, but I always freak out when I try something I never have. I may post it tonight when I get back from work. It depends on how the audio tooling goes. I'm not sure I like what I've done with the song. So unless that gets figured out, I may sit on the video forever.

And? New icon. It's not my default yet, but it may work its way up there. Can you guess who is in the new vid?

Now I have to go get hit on by the bus driver. Seriously. The things I do to get to work.
